Random Acts of Thanksgiving 2014

What a fantastic day!! Random Acts identified, with the help of the Albuquerque Rescue Mission and firefighters on the trucks, 106 families that were in need of help for Thanksgiving. We hosted a Random Act at AFD station 5 where all the families came to the firehouse and picked up a fully cooked Thanksgiving meal for their families. We had the perfect volunteers today who engaged with the homeless families and really imparted on them a feeling of community and caring; the AFD crews were stellar, opening up their house to us and showing off the trucks to the kids of all sizes They were welcoming and engaged and this was there random act too, just like its supposed to be. The AFD Chief and several of his admin came out to not only support what we were doing but brought their kids and helped out and participated, it was their event too. The mayor even came by for a few minutes to show his support to the effort. In the end all the families were fed, hopefully today, even of just today, they didn’t feel invisible and abandoned. Hopefully they have a great meal tomorrow and hopefully all of our firefighters and volunteers have a great memory to hold on to and more to be thankful for tomorrow on Thanksgiving, Thanks everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
